Unpacking Education Policy & Funding Legislation
Engrossed House Bill (EHB) 2242 was enacted by the Legislature in 2017 with the primary intention of meeting
the state’s constitutional obligation
to fully fund basic education for the state’s public school system.
EHB 2242, and funding for its
provisions in the 2017-19 state’s operating budget, overhauls Washington’s K-12
funding system by:
and increasing state salary allocations for education staff
state and local education funding contributions
transparency and accountability of education funding
School districts are now unpacking the many and complex
details contained within the bill that will be the roadmap for K-12 policy
and funding in the coming years. While EHB 2242 does make some progress in investing
in our state’s students and educators, phased in over several years, the devil is
in the details for how districts will benefit over time.
