A Special Election Update

OSPI sent out ballots December 7, 2011 to the eastern region directors to participate in this run-off election. Please be looking for your ballot and return it A.S.A.P.
This election will take place very quickly and WSSDA is committed to ensuring every director participating in this election has an opportunity to make their voice heard.
Why is there a special election for the State Board of Education?
No candidate for the position in question, Eastern Region No. 1, received more than 50 percent plus one of the votes.
The two candidates who will appear on the run-off ballot are Steve Dal Porto and Cynthia McMullen
Who gets to vote in this election?
Because the position in question is Eastern Region No. 1, only currently seated school directors from the following counties are eligible to vote:
Adams, Asotin, Benton, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Franklin, Garfield, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, Walla Walla, Whitman, and Yakima counties.
Election timeline from OSPI
- December 7, 2011: Ballots were mailed to eastern region electors
- Ballots must be postmarked by December 14, 2011 and returned to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction
- No Later than January 6, 2012: results are reported and the election certified
