Information and Assistance for School Boards and Administrators from the Washington State School Directors' Association
Washington’s new K-12 Student Achievement Act, better known as Initiative 728, requires each school district in the state to produce an annual report to the community regarding the use of I-728 resources and improvements to student learning. Specifically, districts must report the amount of funds received under I-728, how the appropriation was used, and what progress has been made on student achievement.
To assist districts in meeting this responsibility, the Washington State School Directors’ Association has prepared a Guide to Community Reporting Requirements of I-728. This information packet includes an overview of the Initiative, details on the requirements of the law, and suggested options for organizing and timing the report. We have also developed a sample report that may be used as a template or starting point for customizing your own district’s report to the community. (To access this information in electronic format, use the links on the right side of this page).
I-728 reporting is also an excellent opportunity to promote community involvement and build on the substantial public support demonstrated when voters adopted this law. Remember, the citizens of Washington state approved Initiative 728 by an overwhelming margin. It is important that we honor the public’s commitment to student achievement by clearly communicating how I-728 funds are being used, and how this new investment in our schools is helping our children learn and succeed.
