School Law Digest and Legal Services

School Law Digest
The laws and regulations making up the framework of school district operations are extremely complex and change frequently. WSSDA's School Law Digest — delivered electronically — keeps members current on court decisions, Attorney General opinions, arbitrations and administrative hearing decisions affecting education. Written in standard English, it clarifies for school directors the legal decisions pertaining to school districts.

Legal inquiries
WSSDA staff members can provide some assistance on many questions that have legal implications; but, do not act as legal counsel for school districts or directors. When a particular legal concern affects your district, you are urged to consult directly with an attorney. Your county's prosecutor serves your district and there is no charge for those services. Alternatively, each local board has the authority to engage private counsel. Many school districts have an attorney of record. The Washington Council of School Attorneys is made up of attorneys with extensive experience representing Washington school districts.

Council of School Attorneys
If a district is seeking legal counsel, WSSDA maintains a roster and contact information for the Council of School Attorneys.
