WSSDA is now seeking candidates to participate in its premier Leadership WSSDA program, slated to begin in February 2007. This dynamic yearlong training program provides emerging leaders with advanced skills in leadership and governance.
"Leadership WSSDA has been vital in growing leaders and advocates for public schools," said Assistant Executive Director Chuck Namit, who heads the program.
The program consists of five weekend sessions, beginning in February and culminating in November at the WSSDA Annual Conference. Each session takes the small class of 10 to 20 participants through an in-depth exploration of important topics, including leadership and teambuilding, communication for leaders, community connections, and diversity. Nationally known speakers work on a one-to-one basis with the class, and state leaders, such as Superintendent Terry Bergeson and former Secretary of State Ralph Munro, spend time with the class discussing education issues and the importance of legislative and regulatory roles in education.
The cost for the program is $1,400, plus travel and accommodations at various sites around the state. Scholarships have been provided through the Washington School Boards’ Educational Foundation, North Central ESD and Seattle-Northwest Securities. WSSDA encourages all interested members to apply. Assistance will be awarded on a needs basis, based on the number of applicants.
