WSSDA president

Central Valley (Spokane) School Board member
Cindy McMullen has been sworn in as president of the Washington State School Directors
Association. The swearing-in ceremony took place Nov. 18 in Spokane during WSSDA’s annual conference. (To view the text

As WSSDA president for
2007, McMullen serves as an advocate for school boards and their
efforts to promote student achievement. She represents the association
and communicates its positions to legislators, members of Congress,
the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the U.S.
Department of Education. McMullen will lead WSSDA in working with
other state-level education associations, including the state Parent
Teacher Association, the Association of Washington School Principals,
Washington Association of School Administrators, the Washington
Education Association, and many others, to advocate for a stronger
public school system.
McMullen was elected
president-elect by WSSDA members last year. The president-elect
automatically becomes president of the association in the following
year.
McMullen has been a member of the Central Valley (Spokane) School
Board for 19 years. She has served as Board President, Vice President,
Legislative Representative and negotiating team member. She has chaired
the bond and levy campaign numerous times. She has been a member of the WSSDA
Cadre of training consultants and has presented at numerous conferences
and workshops. She is a graduate of Leadership WSSDA. WSSDA service
includes Legislative Committee and Federal Relations Network.
McMullen is a
past chair of the Spokane County Civil Service Commission, a past member
of the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees and a member
of the Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce Business/Education Committee.
She has served as president of the Spokane Valley Sunrise Club in Rotary
International. She is active in the Inland Empire Council of the Girl
Scouts of America and has been vice president, service unit manager and
troop leader.
Also sworn in as WSSDA
officers were Ted Thomas, Longview School Board member, who will serve as president-elect for 2007, and
Ricardo Espinoza,
Pasco School Board member, who becomes the association’s vice
president for the coming year.
