Board seeks applicants for WSSDA Vice President

Posted January 24, 2007

The WSSDA Board of Directors is calling for applications from school board members in eastern Washington who are interested in being appointed as WSSDA Vice President. The position is vacant due to the recent resignation of Ricardo Espinoza from the Pasco School Board.

WSSDA’s bylaws require that the WSSDA board fill the vacancy by "electing a successor from the same side of the mountains as the elected vice president to serve the remainder of the term."

Those who wish to be considered for appointment must complete an application form and submit an essay that addresses a series of questions related to the position. Application materials are available via the links at right or by contacting the WSSDA office at 800/562-8927 or 360/493-9231. Submittals must be completed and returned to the WSSDA office postmarked no later than March 9, 2007. The board is expected to make a decision at its next regular meeting on March 30-31, 2007.

Under WSSDA policy, the vice president serves on the association’s executive committee and is the board of directors’ liaison to the WSSDA Legislative Committee. The vice president is expected to attend all meetings of the board of directors and may be asked to assume responsibilities in chairing sections of the WSSDA Annual Conference. In addition, the vice president may serve as a delegate or alternate delegate to the NSBA Annual Convention Delegate Assembly. He/she shall participate in the NSBA Pacific Region meetings, the FRN Conference and the NSBA Leadership Conference.

At the request of the president, the vice president represents the association by attending conferences and meetings of other organizations, by speaking on behalf of the association and participating in state task forces which are addressing significant educational policy issues.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to have a state-level leadership role for student achievement and for your association," said WSSDA President Cindy McMullen (Central Valley/Spokane). "Please consider applying for this important position."
