WSSDA's Legislative Committee is launching the annual
grass-roots process of developing the association’s legislative
positions by requesting legislative proposals from school boards
around the state. (Legislative positions should not be confused with
Permanent Association Positions, which are developed through a separate
process.*)
The designated Legislative Representative on each
school board will receive instructions and forms for use by the board
in recommending
proposals and positions WSSDA will take to the 2008 legislative
session. Legislative Representatives are asked to
ensure that time is scheduled on their board's agenda for
discussing legislative proposals. The committee's goal is to
ensure that the concerns and views of all districts are considered.
Every proposal submitted by a school board is reviewed
by the Legislative Committee and is given a "do pass" or "do not pass"
recommendation. Each of these proposals, unless withdrawn, will be
presented to the total membership at the
WSSDA 2007 Legislative
Assembly, scheduled for Sept. 21-22 in Yakima. There they will be
considered for passage and prioritization.
Please use the form provided by the Legislative
Committee to submit proposals. An electronic copy of the instructions
and form is available using the links in the upper right of this page.
Before submitting a proposal, boards should review the association's
existing
Legislative Positions.
Legislative proposals are due to the WSSDA office no
later than Friday, June 1, 2007.
For more information about this process and for
submitting the proposals, contact WSSDA’s Sheila Chard (360/252-3011).
*Proposals related to WSSDA's Permanent
Association Positions should be submitted to the WSSDA Resolutions
Committee for consideration at the WSSDA Delegate Assembly.
