| State Board schedules
community meetings on graduation requirements, system accountability
Posted May 27, 2008
The State Board of Education has scheduled three community meetings in early
June on two key initiatives currently in progress – one to revise state high school graduation requirements, the other to establish a statewide accountability system for K-12 education.
The meetings will provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about SBE's Meaningful High School Diploma Project, including its draft "Core 24" credit framework. Information will also be presented on the board’s work to create a statewide system of accountability and shared responsibility to improve student achievement. The meetings will include time for feedback from the public.
The meetings will be held in Spokane (June 2), Yakima (June 3)
and Seattle (June 4). Detailed information regarding the meetings and topics to be discussed is available on the
SBE Web site.
The next regular meeting of the State Board of Education will take place July 23-24 in Vancouver. That meeting is expected to include adoption of final language regarding requirements for a third credit of math in high school.
