| HECB extends
application deadlines on scholarships for seventh and eighth graders
Posted June 3, 2008
The Washington Higher Education
Coordinating Board has extended the deadlines for submitting
applications to the state's College Bound Scholarship Program.
The new deadline is June 30, 2008. In addition, this year’s
8th graders (2007/2008) have a one-time exception only and may sign
up through their 9th grade year (June 30, 2009).
These four-year scholarships are
offered to 7th and 8th grade students from families eligible for
free or reduced-priced lunches, and foster youth. Their family
income must remain at 65 percent or less of the state’s median
income by the time of high school graduation to permit an award.
Students must sign a pledge in 7th or
8th grade promising to graduate from high school and to demonstrate
good citizenship. The scholarships cover the cost of college
tuition, fees and books.
