| Declarations of
candidacy now being accepted for State Board position

Western Washington residents interested in running for a position on the State Board of Education may now file declarations of candidacy, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction has announced.
Position 4 – one of five elective positions on
the State Board – is up for election this fall. The position is currently held by Linda Lamb of Olympia. The election is for a four-year term starting in January 2009.
Candidates for Position 4 must be residents of the Western Region, which is comprised of Clallam, Clark, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, San Juan, Skagit, Skamania, Snohomish, Thurston, Wahkiakum and Whatcom counties. The position will be voted on by school board members in the Western Region.
Those elected to the State Board may not concurrently serve as a member of the board of directors of either a public school district or a private school. In addition, elected SBE members cannot be employed by any public or private school, college, university or other educational institution, any educational service district, or OSPI.
Membership on the board requires a considerable commitment of time to prepare and attend meetings. More information about board service requirements is available through the State Board of Education office in Olympia at 360/725-6025 or

biographical data forms must be filed with the state superintendent’s office in
Olympia by 5 p.m., Aug. 1, 2008. Declaration and optional biographical data
