Sounding Board: Court Decision on School Funding

Sounding Board is a periodic "pulse poll" of school directors on emerging issues and topics of interest. The following poll is on the recent court ruling regarding school funding in Washington

King County Superior Court Judge John Erlick ruled this week that the state has failed its constitutional paramount duty to provide ample funding for Washington's public schools, concluding that the state's support "is inadequate and does not fully and amply fund the basic education owed to all students." Erlick said the state must make "real and measurable progress" in paying for basic education, but he left it up to the Legislature to decide how much more money schools should receive, and when.

Our Sounding Board questions:

Participation in Sounding Board is limited to school directors in the state of Washington. This poll was deployed on Feb. 5, 2010.

Sounding Board results are unscientific and unofficial. For formal WSSDA positions on legislative and other issues, see the association's Permanent Positions and Legislative Positions.
