In-District Workshops and Multi-District Shared
Training
WSSDA in-district workshops continue to provide the best value for
your board-superintendent training needs. And now, with a new
multi-district approach, your training dollars can go farther than
ever! Take a look at each of these approaches and plan now for an
in-district training or retreat, or link up with some of your
surrounding districts and share the costs.
Individual Workshops
The WSSDA Board has provided low-cost workshops for a number of
years as a membership benefit. The cost for one board workshop is
$350 for a half day (three hours) or $550 for a full day (six hours) per
district per calendar year. The fees for additional
workshops are $550 for a half day and $850 for a full day.
Individual workshops are designed to meet your own district’s
specific needs. Following are the topics typically requested:
- Roles and responsibilities of board
and superintendent
- Developing a board operating
protocol
- Board self-assessment
- Superintendent evaluation
- Teambuilding
- Conflict resolution
- Strategic planning
- Student learning and accountability
Multi-District Regional Training
Why not get together with neighboring districts and share the costs
of training? Two WSSDA Cadre members can provide an in-depth
workshop for two or more school districts within a region. These
workshops feature problem solving techniques to find solutions for
the challenges that you bring. The total cost of this day long
workshop is $1,500 and can be shared by the participating
districts.
These workshops are designed to
deliver WSSDA’s exciting new curriculum that focuses on the real
work of school boards and administrators and other timely issues and
topics. Topics can include:
- The Key Work of School Boards
and Administrators
- Using Data to Improve Student
Learning
- Closing the Student Achievement
Gap
- Engaging your Community in
Budget Cutting Decisions
- Community Engagement and
Tendencies for Stakeholder Linkage meetings
Is Board Training Justified?
“You bet it is!” says Chuck Namit, assistant executive director for
WSSDA’s Board and Organizational Development. “Just as your school
staff and administrators need ongoing training and development
opportunities, so does the board.” Board training through
in-district, individualized board workshops and customized
multi-district regional training can help you:
- Address local issues;
- Bring new board members up to
speed fast;
- Help build an effective,
cohesive board-superintendent team with agreed-upon goals and
operating principles; and
- Develop understanding and
knowledge of complex state and national issues.
