Leadership for Influence

Research shows that boards have a positive influence on student achievement. But what is that influence and how is it manifested? Explore these questions as you practice communication skills that are key to forming the relationships and coalitions that lead to school board – and student – success.

Leadership for Social Justice

Every district has unique challenges, but all are unified in their need to contend with social justice – racism, gangs, poverty, English as a second language – the list goes on. This session gives the class a first-hand look at innovative programs and policies that address diversity and inclusion. Class members will also be challenged to explore their own values and attitudes regarding social justice.

September 11-12, 2009 • Pasco
Leadership for Change

One of the more challenging roles of governance is planning for change. Knowledge of issues and options, open-mindedness, creativity, and disciplined thought are all essential to this process. In this session, you will be exposed to new ideas and innovative programs through visits to area schools and interaction with knowledgeable speakers. Practice techniques for germinating creativity and for leading meaningful change in your district.

November 17-18, 2009 • Seattle
Leadership for Life

In this final session, you will put your new knowledge and skills into action. You will present outcomes of your year-long project to the class. Where do you go from here? Challenge yourself to integrate the values and skills you have learned into lifelong, transformative growth. This class concludes with a graduation celebration.
