Leadership WSSDA
Overview
Mission
Challenge school directors to grow as visionary, influential
leaders, who demonstrate effective governance that improves student
learning.
Goals
- Develop and support emerging
leaders through rigorous, advanced leadership training.
- Serve as a catalyst for
mentoring and networking among school directors.
- Increase the capacity to
influence local, state and national education policy.
- Inspire individuals to envision
and achieve their leadership potential.
- Identify best practices to
improve student learning.
Program Outcomes
Leadership WSSDA graduates will:
- Model ideals of ethical,
servant-based leadership.
- Demonstrate skills required for
effective teamwork.
- Use a full complement of
leadership skills as agents of change.
- Lead with confidence and
competence.

Graduation RequirementsParticipants must make a commitment to attend all sessions;
exceptions for emergencies may be made on an individual basis.
All participants are expected to complete reading assignments on
time. Additionally, participants must complete and present to
the class an education-related team project of significant
statewide impact. Project themes are generated by class members.
Selection
All school directors who have completed at least four years of
service on their school board are encouraged to apply.
Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 20 participants. If more
than 20 applications are received, the selection committee will
strive to assemble a class of participants from a wide
cross-section of Director Areas and districts, who reflect a
broad range of interests, knowledge and accomplishments.
