WSSDA Sends Letter to the Governor and Secretary of Health Urging New Social Distancing Guidance

This afternoon, WSSDA Board President Rick Jansons and WSSDA Executive Director Tim Garchow sent a letter to the governor and Washington’s secretary of health urging them to quickly reevaluate current social distancing guidance for Washington’s schools in light of the latest recommendation by US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In light of new data, the CDC has relaxed its physical distancing guidelines for children in schools to recommend most students maintain at least 3 feet of distance.

“We’re strongly urging the governor and secretary to adopt the latest recommendation from the CDC,” said Rick Jansons, WSSDA board president. “All school districts are diligently working to meet the intent of the governor’s Emergency Proclamation 21-05, but for many, it will be nearly impossible with the six-foot requirement in place. Therefore, we hope the CDC’s recommendation of 3 feet is adopted as soon as possible.”
